Today, we learned about microphones! My latest microphone purchase is a $20 karaoke microphone from K-Mart. It's a great microphone for road trips because it has a speaker built into it that also does echo and reverb. When I say microphone, I always think of microphones that singers hold in their hands, but today, I was introduced to different types of microphones. Did you know that there are two main types of microphones: dynamic microphones, which are commonly used in schools and are cheap, and condenser microphones, which are more expensive but can also sensitively pick up detailed sounds.

A good use for a dynamic microphone that I can think of is music class in year 7-9. My year 7-9 lo----ve to bang away on their instruments, which can sometimes be rough on the microphones and to me. A dynamic microphone is the perfect microphone for them because it's relatively inexpensive and picks up loud sounds well. I think a condenser microphone would be great for recording my year 12 students for their HSC exams. Now that I know how to use all these different microphones, I'll be able to use them more appropriately when I'm recording!
So, I tried recording my voice using a condenser microphone on a track I had already created! It was a really fun experience because it picked up every little sound, even to the point I had to control my breathing. Since I really enjoyed doing this, I am going to do some more recording in my studio :)
